- <p> DIED. JERRY RUBIN, 56, 1960s activist turned businessman; from
- a heart attack two weeks after being struck by an automobile;
- in Los Angeles. The erstwhile Yippie created some of the era's
- classic antiwar performance art--nominating a pig for President;
- appearing before Congress dressed in Revolutionary War garb;
- sending stockbrokers diving for dollars by dumping bills on
- the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Rubin and the other
- Chicago Eight activists stood trial for their roles in the "police
- riot" outside the 1968 Democratic National Convention; his conviction
- on riot charges was eventually tossed out. At his death, he
- was a prosperous distributor of nutritional drinks.
